In this easy 4-minute durag tutorial, we'll guide you through the simple yet crucial steps to ensure that your durag not only keeps your waves intact but also adds a touch of style to your look.
Why is Putting on a Durag Important?
Before we dive into the tutorial, let's understand why it's crucial to put on a durag the right way. A durag serves as a protective shield for your hair and helps in creating and maintaining those enviable waves. It locks in moisture, prevents hair from drying out, and keeps your waves in place. By putting on a durag correctly, you'll experience fewer disruptions to your wave pattern and enjoy a more refined appearance. We created the Santa Durag to keep your hair protected while also being festive & joyful in the Christmas Spirit.
Materials You'll Need:
-
A High-Quality Durag or Santa Durag: Choose a durag made of a smooth, breathable fabric like silk or satin. These materials are gentle on your hair and reduce friction, helping to preserve your waves. In our tutorial video below we use a Santa Durag.
-
A Mirror: Having a mirror in front of you makes it easier to follow the tutorial steps accurately.
-
Clean Hair: Start with freshly washed and moisturized hair. Well-hydrated hair is more likely to develop well-defined waves.
The Easiest Way to Tie A Durag:
- Begin with a Clean Slate:
Before you even reach for your durag, make sure your hair is clean and moisturized. Use a hydrating hair product to prepare your hair for the durag application. Dry hair is more prone to breakage and frizz.
- Position the Durag on your head:
Place the durag on your head and fit best to your head, with the long ends of the triangle hanging down your back. Adjust the durag as you wish fit.
- Cross and Tie:
Gently cross the long ends of the durag behind your head and bring them to the front. Cross them over each other on your forehead and pull them to the back again.
- Secure the Knots:
With the long ends now at the back of your head, tie them in a tight knot. This knot should comfortably hold the durag in place without being too tight.
- Adjust and Tuck:
Gently adjust the durag to ensure it's snug but not too tight. Tuck any excess fabric under the knot to create a clean and polished look.
- Final Check:
Stand in front of the mirror and double-check the positioning of your durag. Make sure it covers your hair completely, with the knot secure and comfortable.
